SAP Integration Suite already has an extensive Library of Type Systems, which provides a collection of predefined message structures, codelists, etc., provided by agencies that maintain the B2B, A2A, and B2G standards for utilization in the creation of message mappings. But what if your company or partners rely on custom messages that are not available in SAP’s Library of Type Systems? To make the creation of custom source and target message mappings easier and more efficient, SAP Integration Suite has a Library of Custom Type Systems which makes it possible to create message structures from custom messages and custom SOA messages.

In this blog, I will focus on the creation of custom IDocs, which can be uploaded as a custom-type system and used effortlessly in the creation of Message Implementation Guidelines (MIGs) and Mapping Guidelines (MAGs).

Let’s say that we are sending custom INVOIC IDocs to our partner:

In SAP Integration Suite, you would first Create a Custom Type System:

Upload the XSD-File of the custom IDoc:

Select the custom IDoc to be created:

And then fill-in any additional information that might be useful for the custom IDoc

After clicking Create, you can review the structure of the custom IDoc created by the XSD-file before finally Creating the MIG:

Upon clicking Create MIG, you have the possibility to upload a test Payload File, which can be used for Simulation when setting up the MIG for the custom IDoc.

Finally, you can fill-in any additional information that might be useful for the custom MIG and voila!

You know have the ability to further manipulate the structure of the created custom IDoc MIG for the partner in order to simplify and expedite the MAG message mapping process.

Creating Custom Messages in SAP Integration Suite offers several benefits:

  1. Enhanced Flexibility: Custom messages allow you to tailor integrations to meet specific business requirements, ensuring seamless data exchange between different systems.

  2. Improved Efficiency: By defining precise message formats, you can streamline data processing and reduce the likelihood of errors, leading to more efficient operations.

  3. Scalability: Custom messages can be designed to handle varying data volumes and complexities, making it easier to scale integrations as your business grows.

  4. Better Integration: Custom messages facilitate smoother integration with third-party systems, enabling more comprehensive and cohesive business processes.

  5. Optimized Performance: Well-defined custom messages can improve the performance of integration flows by reducing the size and complexity of data being exchanged

Conclusion

Creating custom messages in SAP Integration Suite is quite manageable and can save time in developing the message mappings for your SAP Integration Suite partner projects. The Library of Custom Type Systems is designed to be user-friendly and offers a variety of tools to help you create and customize messages according to your needs. SAP Integration Suite provides comprehensive documentation and support resources to assist you throughout the process.
